The final phase of a training plan, where volume drops and intensity rises so the lifter expresses maximum strength on a chosen date.
Peaking answers a different question from building. The strength is already there; the job is to get rid of fatigue and rehearse heavy singles so the lifter can show it.
A four-week peak into a meet, working from a 200 kg squat: week 1, 3 x 3 at 87 percent; week 2, 3 x 2 at 91 percent; week 3, 2 x 1 at 95 percent; week 4, one opener at 90 percent early in the week, then rest. Accessory work drops to nothing by week 3.
A peak cannot be held. Expect two to three weeks at the top before performance falls off, which is why nobody peaks for a date that has not been booked.
